PIWOSA

Don't miss the PIWOSA 'Wine Car Boot' Fair
published on:

PIWOSA, Premium Independent Wineries of South Africa, comprising thirteen of South Africa’s top independent, boutique wine producers, will be hosting a day of fine wine and epic entertainment on Sunday 13th September at Journey’s End Estate in Sir Lowry’s Pass.

The PIWOSA wine producers, who will be arriving in an array of vintage, retro and sexy sports cars, will be presenting their wines, for tasting and sales, from the boots of their vehicles. Rare and older vintages will be showcased in the boot of a classic car at the Collector’s Corner.

This quirky new take on wine tasting, which has taken London by storm, is the brainchild of Ruth Spivey, a former couture catwalk model with a passion for food and wine, who will be at Journeys End to co-host her first Wine Car Boot Fair in South Africa.

A Wine Olympics will be the perfect backdrop to the Wine Car Boot event. Wine tasters will be invited to try their hand at Water Biscuit Eating, Wine Spitting and Barrel Rolling as well as Grape and Spoon and Three ‘Legless’ Races. In addition there will be: live bands playing throughout the day; a variety of food trucks offering their fine fare; bars selling wine by the bottle and the glass, beer, cider and soft drinks; and market stalls presenting their wares. There will also be loads of activities for kids to enjoy like pony rides, face painting, bouncy castles and a Kids Olympics.

A highlight of the day will be the 25-metre high Journey’s End Trebuchet, a giant medieval catapult, which will be creating a whole lot of fun and excitement: with wine barrels, a piano and the car that sells the least wine on the day being lovingly flung through the air in full view of the spectators.

Tickets at R150 per head, including 12 tasting tokens, a branded glass and all entertainment, are available via Quicket - click here.

Children under 18 enter free of charge. Proceeds from the day will go towards supporting the local Sir Lowry’s Pass Village Community.

About the Journey’s End Trebuchet:
Rollo Gabb, whose family owns and runs Journey’s End Estate, commissioned a full-scale version of the fabled medieval siege weapon – the trebuchet – to be built in Shropshire in 2013 where it was initially used to raise money for a local charity. Following its test run in Shropshire, the Trebuchet was then painstakingly taken apart, shipped to South Africa and re-built at the Gabb family’s Journey’s End Wine Estate at Sir Lowry’s Pass near Stellenbosch, where it has continued to be used for fundraising events to support the local community.
