PIWOSA "Wine Car Boot" Fair an epic success
published on:

Over 1000 adults and their families enjoy an unforgettable day at Journey’s End Estate

PIWOSA, Premium Independent Wineries of South Africa, comprising thirteen of South Africa’s top independent, boutique wine producers, hosted a memorable day of fine wine and epic entertainment on Sunday 13th September at Journey’s End Estate in Sir Lowry’s Pass.

The focus of the day was the finest wine and absolutely fabulous cars, with the PIWOSA wineries presenting their wines from the boots of a superb array of vintage, retro and sexy vehicles. And the backdrop was huge fun and entertainment for the whole family, as well as for international media and trade guests who were in South Africa to attend Cape Wine 2015 at the CTICC.

The Wine Olympics saw visitors trying their hand at Water Biscuit Eating, Wine Spitting and Barrel Rolling as well as Grape and Spoon and Three ‘Legless’ Races. Three live bands delighted the crowds, with Donavon Copley’s stellar Hot Water Band, with their jiving and jumping and the utterly danceable rhythms of their South African Folk-Rock music, stealing the show. The kids were spoilt for choice at this fabulous family event, with loads of activities on offer like pony rides, face painting, bouncy castles and a Kids Olympics. And the Journey’s End trebuchet, a replica medieval catapult, created enormous excitement, lovingly flinging wine barrels at targets with the grand finale the chucking of a car high into the sky to the amazement of all.

It was a great day all round, with fantastic efforts from all PIWOSA producers who brought some really great wines and wonderful vehicles. The sun shone…the wind disappeared and the guests seemed to hugely enjoy the various objects being thrown by the trebuchet, especially the car. Crowd participation in the Wine Olympics was mega, and the three bands played fantastic sets with Hot Water a real hit with the crowd. The one glitch was our being let down by 4 food trucks which created long queues for the food. This was eventually fixed when we located 2 additional trucks at 2.30pm. We do apologise to all our guests for this one issue”, commented Rollo Gabb of Journey’s End who masterminded the epic event.

Journeys End’s profits for the day are to be channelled into a number of projects in Sir Lowry’s Pass village. These include the monthly pensioners’ lunch, holiday classes in numeracy and literacy for school children, Sunday school and more.
