Punching Way Above It's Weight
Dolomite Cabernet Franc 2020
Celebrating 10 Vintages
“A Brilliant Cabernet Franc That Will Age Gloriously”
Vinous SA Report 2021 By Neal Martin MW
It is no secret that Raats Family Wines produce some of the most expressive and celebrated Cabernet Francs in South Africa. With meticulous attention to detail and quality, Raats has earned a reputation worldwide, with Cabernet Franc enthusiasts, as the king of this variety.
Dolomite Cabernet Franc was born in 2010 with the vision to create a wine of exceptional quality and value, accessible to drink young, yet can be matured in grand cellars worldwide. As the younger, more exuberant brother of Raats Family Cabernet Franc, our Dolomite Cabernet Franc achieves this vision abundantly well, with many accolades under its belt since that maiden vintage. This includes being awarded Cabernet Franc of the Year with the 2016 vintage and more recently scoring a massive 95-points in Neal Martin’s Vinous South Africa Report 2021 for the 2019 vintage. The 2020 vintage punch well in any category and illustrate Cabernet Franc at its best: an age-worthy wine that stimulates both the intellect and palate, yielding its estimable pleasures best at the table.
As much as this wine brings structure and complexity, it retains the gulpable joyous quality that makes us love it so much. This is a wine you’ll want to have on hand in quantity – one case is not enough!
We invite you, our Raats Private Cellar & Family members, to acquire this wine and enjoy with us.

DOLOMITE CABERNET FRANC 2020
In any vintage, our Dolomite Cabernet Franc is a soulful quaffer of the highest order, and the 2020 vintage is something much more. The wine has a fantastic combination of power, verve and clarity. Thoroughly honest in style, generous and approachable, this wine is both vibrantly fresh and charmingly drinkable.
Harvested by hand from vines planted in decomposed Dolomite soils from Stellenbosch and vinification done in small batches with optimally ripe grapes, the wine bears an energetic, tensile nose of wonderfully defined red and black fruit, sage, bell pepper and clove aromas with hints of dried blood emerging with time. The palate is well balanced, tout and fresh with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity, a harmonious, sophisticated finish, and suggestions of black pepper on the aftertaste.
This wine flaunts the complexity, perfume and elegance that Cabernet Franc is capable of whilst showing unabashed deliciousness and poise.

“BEST VALUE RED FROM SOUTH AFRICA” – NEAL MARTIN MW VINOUS SOUTH AFRICA REPORT 2021
THE UNEXPECTED VITALITY OF WINTER IN THE VINEYARD
Unlike the lush growth spurred by summer, winter pares a vineyard down to its bones. Vines drop their leaves, revealing spindly arms and crusted trunks. To the untrained eye, it might look bleak, yet critical processes such as bud and root growth, pruning, suppression of pests, disease control, and much more occur during the cold months. Winter is the season of recovery and preparation. In this season of dormancy, where temperatures drop and days are short, the vines move into a deepening stage of rest.
Once the vines go full into rest, nurtured by soft rain and mist, we start pruning, which supports vineyard health, defines future yields and shapes vines for growth and training structures. This month saw us pruning our vines and planting a brand new Cabernet Franc vineyard in Polkadraai Hills. We are meticulously nurturing this new baby of ours and look forward to the yields she will bring in years to come.
