Wine Information

Aging potential: Drinks exceptionally well now, with potential for cellaring over the next 2 – 4 years for further development of its complex profile.

Blend information: Crafted from 100% Chenin Blanc, showcasing the purity and expressive character of this versatile grape.

Food suggestions: Perfectly complements mild curry dishes, sushi, or oysters, making it a versatile choice for an array of culinary experiences.

In The Cellar

Grapes grown from the two soil types are fermented separately, the decomposed granite bringing a lime and mineral character, while the sandstone more tropical fruit and structure.

The juice was cold settled for 2 to 3 days, then cold fermented (14° - 16°C) in stainless steel tanks and aged on the lees for 6 months before bottling. No wood ageing.

Tasting

The wine has a distinctive yellow apple, kiwi fruit and pineapple core, alongside notes of green melon and limes.

The wine is thus bursting with fresh fruit flavours. The wine has a zesty citrus flavour linger on the palate, with a long mineral finish.

Raats Family Wines

Established in 2000 and located in the Polkadraai Hills of the striking Stellenbosch winelands, the Raats Family winery was originally a partnership between brothers Bruwer and Jasper Raats (who stepped away from the business after some time).

Bruwer and Jasper’s father, Jasper Senior, acted as viticulturist during the foundational stages of the winery, but sadly passed away in 2009, leaving Bruwer Raats to continue on the family legacy.

POLKADRAAI HILLS

Raats Family Wines was one of the driving forces behind the establishment of Polkadraai Hills as an official ward within Stellenbosch in 2007.  With its unique decomposed dolomite granite soils, proximity to the ocean and south facing slopes it allows for great depth of quality terroir, making itself known as producing some of the most exciting wines in the country.

“What I was after was purity, freshness and lower alcohol levels.  This is precisely what the decomposed dolomite soils of Polkadraai Hills provides. Refined elegance and sophistication.  Classical winemaking at its best.” Bruwer Raats
