In The Cellar

50% of the wine was fermented and matured in 300 and 500 litre French oak barrels to accentuate the soft, luscious flavours; 50% fermented in stainless steel to contribute a crisp acidity and bright citrus flavours.

After 11 months, the two components are blended together and left on the lees for a further 2 months before bottling. Fermentation temperature: 18° - 22° C.

Tasting

The wine offers a complex nose showing quince, white peach and yellow apple, with fenugreek spices give more dimension alongside the mineral intensity of the wine.

The stone fruit character follows through onto an exceptionally balanced, very delicate and fine textured palate showing a peach-melba character with an exquisite length and freshness.

The wine lingers with hints of ripe nectarine and apricot, zesty lemon and wet chalk.

Raats Family Wines

Established in 2000 and located in the Polkadraai Hills of the striking Stellenbosch winelands, the Raats Family winery was originally a partnership between brothers Bruwer and Jasper Raats (who stepped away from the business after some time).

Bruwer and Jasper’s father, Jasper Senior, acted as viticulturist during the foundational stages of the winery, but sadly passed away in 2009, leaving Bruwer Raats to continue on the family legacy.

POLKADRAAI HILLS

Raats Family Wines was one of the driving forces behind the establishment of Polkadraai Hills as an official ward within Stellenbosch in 2007.  With its unique decomposed dolomite granite soils, proximity to the ocean and south facing slopes it allows for great depth of quality terroir, making itself known as producing some of the most exciting wines in the country.

“What I was after was purity, freshness and lower alcohol levels.  This is precisely what the decomposed dolomite soils of Polkadraai Hills provides. Refined elegance and sophistication.  Classical winemaking at its best.” Bruwer Raats

Family Owned

Family-owned winery, crafting quality wines, nurtured from vineyard to cellar.

THE SUCCESS OF SPECIALISING

Rising gracefully from the vineyards in Polkadraai Hills Stellenbosch, Raats Family Wines stand in celebration of the unique dolomite granite soil of this tiny ward.

Founded in 2000 by visionary winemaker Bruwer Raats, in partnership with his cousin Gavin Bruwer Slabbert, Raats Family Wines specialize in Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc and has been crafting soil-driven wines of exceptional quality ever since.
